People that fall on this spectrum are easily influenced by others and engage in manipulative behavior themselves. HPD is a personality disorder in which someone has excessive attention seeking emotions and an excessive need for approval, regardless of the source. I have heard her father actually tell her over the phone when she called to ask for advice that "you're an adult so I'm done being your dad." That was a tough day. It traces back to her childhood in which her parents rarely gave her approval on any level even though she was a valedictorian and graduated with the top of her class in college with a high-end professional career. She has been diagnosed in the past with Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD). A couple of details that were left off my initial post for clarity.
